Hey Man,
I heard nothing but good things about them. Heard they were accurate and are really built well. I believe that most of it is a 98 internals.

Its just like any other tippmann really. Can be adapted to have ACT and a cyclone.. Its a pretty good price starter marker, and a lot of people have done some really cool things with them with some heavy modding.

Personally, if you prefer performance over looks, look into the Smart Parts Vibe or SP1- similar pricing to the AB but much better out of the box performance, use less air per shot so you get more shots out of a single tank and are more consistent because they have regulators built in. Are also a lot quieter than tippmanns if you prefer stealthy play.

Well, do yourself a favor, and get it out of your head right now that any particular marker will give you better distance than the next. At the same velocity, every marker will shoot the same paintball the same distance.

The only way to get more range is to impart backspin to the ball, which can be done either with a flatline barrel (not compatible with the AB) or the Apex barrel. And neither are known for being very accurate, because the backspin they impart to increase range will also tend to make shots veer off at extreme ranges.

From experience though, the Apex IS much more accurate than the flatline, as well as easier to use. However, either barrel will also drastically increase the report of your shots.

A paintball "sniper" (not a huge fan of that term, really) would typically want a very quiet marker with high shot-to-shot consistency in velocity. Vibe or SP1 are much better at both than the AB. So again, its a function over form issue. Our team's two "sniper"-style players both use the AGD Tac-One with carbon fiber barrels- very quiet, and very consistent over the chrono, but from what you're saying, the Tac-One would probably be out of your desired price range, coming in at about $400.

Sorry to bombard you with information, but I always prefer to ensure that newer players make informed decisions about their gear choices.

Also- this post is not meant in any way to belittle the Alpha Black, it is a great starting milsim marker, and tough as nails to boot. BUT, it seems to me as if your desired playing style would be complimented better by a spool-valve style marker like the Vibe, SP1, Ion, SP8, etc...

I am thinking as a sniper you would be more concerned with accuracy than distance..... just my thought.
as for a marker i am impressed with my backup, a BT4 Combat. i personally this its a good deal. i prob. over payed for my but i dropped $130 on it, then you can upgrade wtih a e trigger and a ripclip later on. but snipers dont usually use a high rate of fire so a lower to mid end electric hopper( used halo b) and a good barrel 16-18 inch with paint match inserts or backswould be a great start.
BT-4 $130
hopper- $50
barrel kit- $150
Your looking at being set up pretty well at around $230
But like the man said its all personal preference.
Good luck
