Hey guys-
Last year my friend Kate ran in the Disney Marathon to support the ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Association of NY. Thanks to the generosity of friends, family, and complete strangers from both web forums like this, and who saw a story on her in the local paper, she raised about $3300, coming short of her $4000 goal but still a significant donation nonetheless.
Well, this year, she's decided to step it up a notch. Not only shooting to raise $7000 for the American Cancer Society, but also running the Goofy Challenge. For those of us (like me) who would otherwise not have any clue what that is, the Goofy Challenge is where runners run a half marathon (~12 miles) on the Saturday of the event weekend, AND THEN run the full marathon on Sunday. Yes, I told her she's nuts... And when she tried recruiting me to run this year, I laughed. But, I am going to do my duty as a friend and try and help her meet her goal this year, which is where you guys come in.
I don't think I have to explain what the American Cancer Society does, and I'm sure all of us have been touched in some way by cancer in the course of our lives. I know that with todays economic hardships, its not all that easy to donate money, even to very deserving causes, but think of all the businesses that may not be able to make substantial donations this year as well. So I beg of each and every person who reads this that if you can spare even just $5 to help out, please donate! I donated about $300 total last year (between my individual donation and that of my team), and plan to donate at least as much this year. However, since my OT's been cut, I'm putting some gear up for sale or possibly auction this week to fund it.
So please, if you've ever loved or known someone afflicted by cancer, you know the good that the ACS does for these people in their time of need.
